புதுடில்லி : இந்திய ரூபாய்க்கான புதிய சின்னம், அரசால் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அமெரிக்கா உட்பட முன்னணி நாடுகளைப் போல இனி நமது கரன்சிக்கு என்று இதன் மூலம் பிரத்யேக அடையாளம் அமையும்; அடுத்த சில மாதங்களில் இது நடைமுறைக்கும் வரும் என, மத்திய அமைச்சரவை கூட்டத்தில் முடிவு எடுக்கப்பட்டது.

போட்டி: இதையடுத்து, புதிய சின்னத்தை வடிவமைக்க மத்திய நிதி அமைச்சகம் போட்டி ஒன்றை அறிவித்தது. அதன்படி புதிய சின்னம், சர்வதேச அளவில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் பொதுவான கீ-போர்டில் பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் இருக்க வேண்டும். இந்திய தேசிய மொழிகளின் எழுத்துருவை பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்; பார்த்தவுடன் எளிதில் புரிந்து கொள்ளும் வகையில் வடிவமைப்பு இருக்க வேண்டும் என நிபந்தனைகள் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. மேலும், போட்டியின் முடிவில் தேர்ந்தேடுக்கப்படும் சின்னத்தை வடிவமைத்தவருக்கு, இரண்டரை லட்ச ரூபாய் பரிசுத் தொகை வழங்கப்படும் என நிதி அமைச்சகம் தெரிவித்தது. இதையடுத்து, நாடு முழுவதும் இருந்து மத்திய நிதி அமைச்சகத்துக்கு 3,000 புதிய சின்னங்கள் வந்து குவிந்தன. அதிலிருந்து புதிய சின்னத்தை தேர்வு செய்ய மத்திய நிதி அமைச்சகம், ஐந்து பேர் கொண்ட உயர்மட்டக் குழுவை அமைத்தது. இக்குழுவினர், புதிய சின்னங்களை பல்வேறு கோணங்களில் ஆய்வு செய்து, இறுதியில் ஐந்து சின்னங்களை தேர்வு செய்தனர். பின், அந்த ஐந்து சின்னங்களில் ஒன்றை தேர்வு செய்து ஒப்புதல் அளிக்க மத்திய அமைச்சரவையின் பரிசீலனைக்கு அனுப்பினர். புதிய சின்னத்தை தேர்வு செய்வதற்காக மத்திய அமைச்சரவை குழு நேற்று கூடி ஆலோசனை நடத்தியது.
கூட்டத்திற்கு பின் நிருபர்களிடம் பேசிய மத்திய தகவல் ஒலிபரப்புத்துறை அமைச்சர் அம்பிகா சோனி கூறியதாவது: உயர்மட்டக் குழு பரிந்துரைத்த ஐந்து சின்னங்களில், மும்பை ஐ.ஐ.டி., மாணவர் உதயகுமார் உருவாக்கிய சின்னத்தை இந்திய ரூபாய்க்கான புதிய சின்னமாக அறிவிக்க, மத்திய அமைச்சரவை ஒப்புதல் வழங்கியுள்ளது. அவருக்கு இரண்டரை லட்ச ரூபாய் பரிசுத் தொகை வழங்கப்படும். புதிய சின்னம் தேவநாகிரி, "ரா' மற்றும் ரோமன் "ஆர்' ஆகிய இரண்டு எழுத்துருவையும் கலந்து உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. எதிர்வரும் காலங்களில் அச்சடிக்கப்படும் ரூபாய் நோட்டுகள் மற்றும் நாணயங்களில் புதிய சின்னம் இடம் பெறும். அடுத்த ஆறு மாதங்களில், நாடு முழுவதும் புதிய சின்னம் நடைமுறைக்கு கொண்டு வரப்படும். தவிர, அடுத்த 18 முதல் 24 மாதங்களில், சர்வதேச அளவில் இந்திய ரூபாய்க்கான புதிய சின்னத்தை நடைமுறைக்கு கொண்டு வர திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேலும், கம்ப்யூட்டர் கீ-போர்டில் புதிய சின்னத்தை பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் பிரத்யேக வசதி உருவாக்கப்படும். காகிதங்களில் பிரின்ட் அவுட் எடுக்க வசதியாக சாப்ட்வேர்களிலும் புதிய சின்னம் பதிவு செய்யப்படும். நாணய மதிப்பிற்கு தனிச்சின்னம் கொண்ட ஐந்தாவது நாடு என்ற பெருமையை இந்தியா பெறும். அமெரிக்காவின் டாலர், பிரிட்டனின் பவுண்ட் - ஸ்டெர்லிங், ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளின் யூரோ, ஜப்பான் நாட்டின் யென் ஆகியவை ஏற்கனவே சர்வதேச அளவில் நடைமுறையில் உள்ளன. இவ்வாறு அம்பிகா சோனி கூறினார்.

To reach this Shivasthalam, one has to travel south-west 16 Kms from Karur on the way to Aravankurichi and go in a branch road about 10 Kms. The temple is located on the east bank of river Kudaganaaru.

This shivasthalam is more than 1200 years old. The king of Devaas, Indiran, is said to have worshipped the Lingam here to get rid of his sins. God Shiva has personally appeared in front of Sundarar as an old man at this shivasthalam and bestowed Sundarar with gifts for the songs (Pathigams) composed by him.
The main Lingam inside the sanctum sanctorum is 5 feet in height and the female deity's image is 2.5 feet in height. This shivasthalam has been patronised by the kings of Pandiya Naadu and many rock cut inscriptions of Pandiya Period have been found in this temple.

Temple: A "Deepasthambam" is seen in front of the temple which is carved of single stone. The lower part of this 70 feet post bears the carvings of lord Ganapathi, Sundaramoorthi Nayanar and the rebirth of a boy from the mouth of a crocodile. This "Dheepasthumbam" is a unique feature in all the ancient temples of Kongunadu. A 30 pillar hall is located in front of the "Dheepasthumbam".
The Shiva temple at Avinasi is spread over an area of 1.5 acres and is located on the banks of Nallar river. The main rajagopuram is on the east side with 7 tiers. It is nearly 100 feet height and one of the biggest towers in the Kongunadu. The first idol that one worships on entering the temple through the Rajagopuram is the Selva Vinayagar. On the ceiling above the carved image of Uchi pillayar can be seen. Anointment of this deity is believed to bring rains even during drought conditions. Inside the gopuram, the idols of idols of saints Sundarar and Manickavasagar are seen on the left side. Inside there are two corridors. Once we enter , there is a mandapam and magnificant sculptures of Gods and Goddesses like the Veerabadhirar, Oorthava Thandavamurthy, Kali can be seen on the pillars of the mandapam. From the mandapam, one can enter the sanctum sanctorum of Avinasiappar shrine. The Lord Avinashi Lingeswarar enshrined here is looked upon as the offshoot of the one in Kashi (Banaras). Thus Avinashi is called the Kashi of Kongunadu. The inner corridor on the four sides of the sanctum sancotrum are decorated with the images of Nayanmars, Murugan Sannadhi in the northwest and Karaiakal Ammaiar Sannadhi on the northeast.
The shrine of Goddess Karunambikai (consort of Avinashi Lingeswarar) is seen separately and is located on the right side of the presiding deity. It is located in the southern side of the temple corridor. The front mandapam of Goddess Karunambikai shrine has carvings of figures like the elegant and beautiful Kurathi or her more rugged male counterpart Kuravan, which arrest the attention of everybody entering this shrine. At the back of the shrine is carved a figure of scorpion, which is said to have the efficacy to cure a person, from even the bite of a venomous snake and sting of scorpions. The Kala Bairavar shrine of this temple has a special status.

The most important Festival of this temple is the annual Car Festival celebrated in the Tamil month of Chithirai (April-May). This Festival is one of the biggest event in this region, celebrated for 11 days. The Lord will be carried in different carriers in the first four days. The Car pulling is the Prime attraction of this festival and the grand function will be completed with the function of pouring turmeric water.

This Kodumudinathar Shivasthalam is situated about 40 Kms from Erode. The temple is very near to Kodumudi railway station which is on the Erode - Tiruchy section of the Southern Railway.
Temple: Cauvery river coming from the northwest turn to the east at Kodumudi. The Shiva temple at Kodumudi is on the west bank of river cauvery. The east facing temple is 640 feet in length and 484 feet in breadth. The temple houses the shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. The temple has 3 entrances on the east side. One can reach the shrines for God Vishnu and God Brahma by entering through the central gate. To the north of the central gate lies the entrance for the shrine of god Shiva known here as Kodumudinathar. To the south of the central gate lies the entrance for the shrine of female deity.
It is said that the shrines for God vishnu and God Brahma inside the Shiva temple is of special mention here and it is believed they both worship God Shiva at this place. Pandiya kings have patronised the temple regularly and because of the connection of Pandiya kings, this shivasthalam is called as Tiruppandikodumudi. Malayathvuja Pandian, Maravarman Sundarapandian and Pandiya Kesarivarman are some of the kings who have donated land, jewellery etc. to this temple.

According to legend, Lord Murugan got Brahamahathi Dosham after killing the demon king Soorapadman. To get rid of this dosham, Lord Murugan erected a Shivalingam at this place and worshipped Lord Shiva. Later on this Sthalam became Tirumurugapoondi, a Paadal Petra Sthalam visited by Sundarar.
This temple is facing west and there is no gopuram in front as in other temples. The temple has come up in about 1 acre with high compound walls on the four sides. The main Lingam inside the sanctum sanctorum is two and a half feet in height and is facing west. To the right side of the sanctum sanctorum, there is a statue for Lord Muruga which is 5 feet in height. To the left side of the sanctum sanctorum the shrine for female deity Aavudainayagi is situated.

Located in the heart of Karur town, Pasupatheeswarar Temple devoted to Lord Shiva in the form of Pasupathinathar is considered as the first and foremost of the seven Shiva Shrines of the Kongu region. It is said that the holy cow Kamadhenu worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and hence the deity got the name Aanilaiappar (Aa means cow) and then Pasupathinathar which means 'Lord of all living beings'.
Temple: The temple at Karuvoor is built on a 2.65 acres site. There are two gopurams in this temple. The 7 tier front Raja Gopuram is 120 feet in height. Stucco images of mythological characters are found on this tower. The second tower (gopuram) is a 5 tier one. The Pukazh Chozhar (one of the 63 nayanmars) mandapam is located in between these two towers. There are 2 corridors inside the temple. The 100 pillar mandapam is a prominent portion of the temple. The main shrine (Moolvar) is a swayambu lingam. The sun's rays falls on the lingam 3 days in a year during the Tamil month of Panguni (March 15th to April 15th). There are two shrines for the goddess. The shrine for female deity Sundaravalli is facing south and the shrine for Alagaravalli is facing east.
Brahma and Kamadhenu are said to have worshipped the lingam here.
The temple structure built on 2.65 acres of land has two gopurams (tower). The 7 tier front Rajagopuram is 120 feet high and is adorned with stucco images of mythological characters. The other gopuram is a 5 tier one. Inside the temple there are 2 corridors. The main attraction of the temple is its100 pillared mandapam with inscriptions of Chola and Pandya. The temple complex has a holy tree called Vanji and a holy spring called Thadaagai Theertham.
The 5 feet high idol, which can be seen in a slanting position is a swayambu moorthy (self-created image) and it is kept in the main shrine (Moolvar). This idol representing Pasupathiswaralingam is bathed by the milk oozing from the udder of a cow. It is said that 3 days in a year during the Tamil month of Panguni (March 15 to April 15) the sun's rays falls directly on this lingam. Apart from the main shrine, there are two shrine for the female deity's. One is for Sundaravalli (Soundaranayaki), which is facing south and the other for Alagaravalli, facing east.
Daily 6 traditional kaala poojas are performed here. Archana, Sagasranama Archana, Ashtothra Archana , Abishekam are some among them. It is believed that those who surrender at the feet of Lord Pasupathinathar is blessed with a complete peace of mind. The devotees offer oil, milk, curd and tender coconut to the Lord and mangalsutra , jewels and sari to the Goddess.
The main festivals of this temple are Brahmotsavam in the month of Panguni (March-April, which include Soundranayaki Ambal’s marriage) and Arudra Darshan or Thiruvadirai in the month Margazhi (December-January). Both these festivals are celebrated for 13 days. Besides these, festivals like Eripaththa Nayanar Utsavam, Navarathri and auspicious days like Pradosha days, Jupiter transit day, Saturn transit day and full moon days are celebrated with great devotion.

The rock- cave temple Kalyana Venkattaramasami Temple, popularly known as Then (South) Tirupati is situated at Thanthoni, around 5 km from Karur. The shrine placed on a raised portion of a hillock is one of the famous temples in the district. Lord Kalyana Venkataramana Swamy ( Lord Srinivasa) is the main deity with the Goddesses Sri Devi and Bhoomi Devi.

Sri Mariamman Temple
Sri Mariamman Temple, situated in the heart of Karur, is one of the most famous and sacred temple of the city and the second largest Amman temple in Tamil Nadu. Around one million devotees will attend the annual festival held in the month of May. On the final day, 'Kambam' (sacred neem stem) was brought out of the temple in a ceremonial procession and taken to the Amaravathi river where it was respectfully lowered at the riverbed. Devotees of all age groups, irrespective of caste and creed will gather here to attend this ritual. The festival conclude with a spectacular firework display.
Maha Lakshmi Amman Temple
Situated at Mettumahadanapuram, the 800 year old Mahalakshmi Amman temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi is believed to be built by King Krishna Deva Raya. Mattumahadanapuram is also known as Krishnarayapuram, which was named after the king.
The annual festival of the temple known as Adi festival is celebrated for two days in the Tamil month of Aadi (mid July - mid August). The festival commence with the ceremonial procession of the 'Amman' to the temple and the chief priest performed abishekam with the holy water brought from the Cauvery river. The main highlight of the festival is the breaking of coconut on the heads of the devotees as a part of their fulfillment of vow. During the festive days a traditional lamp was lit on top of the temple flag post.

How to reach This Shivasthalam is situated 68 Kms by road from Coimbatore. There is also a railway station at Karur on the Erode - Tiruchy section of the Southern Railway and is about 70 Kms from Erode and 75 Kms from Tiruchy.

Located in the heart of Karur town, Pasupatheeswarar Temple devoted to Lord Shiva in the form of Pasupathinathar is considered as the first and foremost of the seven Shiva Shrines of the Kongu region. It is said that the holy cow Kamadhenu worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and hence the deity got the name Aanilaiappar (Aa means cow) and then Pasupathinathar which means 'Lord of all living beings'.
Temple: The temple at Karuvoor is built on a 2.65 acres site. There are two gopurams in this temple. The 7 tier front Raja Gopuram is 120 feet in height. Stucco images of mythological characters are found on this tower. The second tower (gopuram) is a 5 tier one. The Pukazh Chozhar (one of the 63 nayanmars) mandapam is located in between these two towers. There are 2 corridors inside the temple. The 100 pillar mandapam is a prominent portion of the temple. The main shrine (Moolvar) is a swayambu lingam. The sun's rays falls on the lingam 3 days in a year during the Tamil month of Panguni (March 15th to April 15th). There are two shrines for the goddess. The shrine for female deity Sundaravalli is facing south and the shrine for Alagaravalli is facing east.
Brahma and Kamadhenu are said to have worshipped the lingam here.
The temple structure built on 2.65 acres of land has two gopurams (tower). The 7 tier front Rajagopuram is 120 feet high and is adorned with stucco images of mythological characters. The other gopuram is a 5 tier one. Inside the temple there are 2 corridors. The main attraction of the temple is its100 pillared mandapam with inscriptions of Chola and Pandya. The temple complex has a holy tree called Vanji and a holy spring called Thadaagai Theertham.
The 5 feet high idol, which can be seen in a slanting position is a swayambu moorthy (self-created image) and it is kept in the main shrine (Moolvar). This idol representing Pasupathiswaralingam is bathed by the milk oozing from the udder of a cow. It is said that 3 days in a year during the Tamil month of Panguni (March 15 to April 15) the sun's rays falls directly on this lingam. Apart from the main shrine, there are two shrine for the female deity's. One is for Sundaravalli (Soundaranayaki), which is facing south and the other for Alagaravalli, facing east.
Daily 6 traditional kaala poojas are performed here. Archana, Sagasranama Archana, Ashtothra Archana , Abishekam are some among them. It is believed that those who surrender at the feet of Lord Pasupathinathar is blessed with a complete peace of mind. The devotees offer oil, milk, curd and tender coconut to the Lord and mangalsutra , jewels and sari to the Goddess.
The main festivals of this temple are Brahmotsavam in the month of Panguni (March-April, which include Soundranayaki Ambal’s marriage) and Arudra Darshan or Thiruvadirai in the month Margazhi (December-January). Both these festivals are celebrated for 13 days. Besides these, festivals like Eripaththa Nayanar Utsavam, Navarathri and auspicious days like Pradosha days, Jupiter transit day, Saturn transit day and full moon days are celebrated with great devotion.
Kalyana Venkattaramasami Temple
The rock- cave temple Kalyana Venkattaramasami Temple, popularly known as Then (South) Tirupati is situated at Thanthoni, around 5 km from Karur. The shrine placed on a raised portion of a hillock is one of the famous temples in the district. Lord Kalyana Venkataramana Swamy ( Lord Srinivasa) is the main deity with the Goddesses Sri Devi and Bhoomi Devi.

Thiruchengodu Arthanareeswarar

How to reach This Shivasthalam is situated 18 Kms from Erode and 32 Kms from Namakkal. Bus facilities are available from Erode, Salem and Namakkal to go to Tiruchengode.

This Shivasthalam was known as Kodimaada Chenkundrur during the time of Sambandar's visit to this temple. Now known as Tiruchengode, it is famous for its hill and the temple on the top. The hill is 1900 feet height from the mean sea level. A motorable ghat road is also available to go to the top of the hill and one can reach the temple by bus or car. Another way to reach the temple is to alight 1200 steps to the top of the hill. There are many mandapams on the way for people to take rest. Once on top of the hill, the main Gopuram (Tower) with 5 tiers is on the north side of the hill. The compound wall of the temple is 260 feet length east to west and 170 feet length north to south.
The main shrine for Lord Shiva known as Maathoru Paagar and for Lord Subramanya known as Chengottu Velar is located on a flat surface atop the hill. The image of the main deity is 6 feet in height, the right half of the image as male and left half of the image as female. Hence the main deity is also known as Arthanareeswarar. Chengottu Velar shrine is on the back side of the main sanctum sanctorum. The sculptures found in the mandapam in front of the Chengottu Velar shrine are of intricate designs and workmanship. Saint Arunagirinathar has also composed Thirupugazh on Lord Subramanya here.

Temple: This Shivasthalam is located on the confluence of 2 rivers Bhavani and Cauvery. The temple is located on the northern bank where the 2 rivers meet. The temple is constructed on a 4 acre land. The main tower with 5 tiers is located on the north side of the temple. Eventhough this temple is a Saivite temple for Lord Shiva as Sangameswar, there is a separate shrine inside this temple for Lord vishnu as Adhi Kesava Perumal with his consort Soundaravalli Thaayar.
The shrine for female deity Vedhanayagi is facing east. To the right side of this shrine is the shrine for Lord Subramanya. Saint Arunagirinathar who visited Thirunanaa, has composed many songs (Thirupugazh) on Lord Subramanya. On the south side of the temple, the images of 63 Nayanmars are kept.
It is said that during the East India Company regime the then Collector of Coimbatore and Salem Districts, Willam Garrow, who had his headquarters at Bhavani, worshipped Goddess Vedanayaki. As only Hindus were allowed to enter the temple, the collector worshipped the Goddess from the outside of the temple by seeing Her through an opening made in the temple wall. One night when the collector William Garrow was sleeping in his bungalow, the Goddess directed him in his dream to leave the bungalow at once. As the collector left the bungalow, entire bunalow collapsed. In appreciation to the Goddess who save his life, he presented to the temple an ivory cradle, which is still in the temple, with his signature.
6 poojas are performed everyday at this temple.
The temple will be open from 5 AM to 1 PM and again from 4 PM to 8 PM.
